Privacy & cookies
This notice explains what personal data Popular Crafts handles and how. It is written to meet our obligations under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Who is responsible
Popular Crafts is a trading name of AlmostAnEngineer Ltd (company no. 17280331), registered at 17A The Avenue, TQ12 2BZ, United Kingdom. AlmostAnEngineer Ltd is the data controller for this site. You can reach us at daniel@almostanengineer.co.uk for anything in this notice.
What we collect
- Your saved list. Articles you bookmark are stored in your own browser's local storage on your device. We never receive that list and it is not linked to you.
- Article click counts. When someone opens an article we increase a counter on that article so we can show what is popular. No IP address, identifier or profile is stored with it, so this is not personal data.
- Technical request logs. Our hosting provider processes standard server logs (including IP address) for a short period to deliver the site securely and to prevent abuse. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests in running a working, secure website.
- Email address. If we open the weekly round-up signup and you choose to subscribe, we store the email address you give us so we can send that email. The lawful basis is your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time. The signup is currently switched off, so no email addresses are being collected.
- Site administration. If you hold an administrator account for managing feeds, we store the account details needed to sign you in.
Cookies and local storage
We do not use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, so there is no consent banner to click through. The only browser storage we use is strictly necessary: local storage for your saved list, and a session cookie if you sign in to the feed admin area. If we ever add analytics or ads, we will ask for your consent first and update this notice.
Links to other sites
Popular Crafts is an aggregator: every article card links out to the publisher who wrote it. Once you follow a link, that publisher's own privacy policy and cookies apply — we have no control over them. Article thumbnails may be loaded from the publisher's server, which means your browser contacts them to fetch the image; we send no referrer information when it does.
Who we share data with
We do not sell personal data or share it for marketing. We use service providers to host the site and its database, and they process data only on our instructions. Where data is processed outside the UK, we rely on the appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
How long we keep it
Subscriber email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Server logs are kept only for the short retention period set by our hosting provider. Your saved list stays on your device until you clear it or clear your browser storage.
Your rights
You have the right to ask for a copy of your personal data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its use, to data portability, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it. Contact us using the details above and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

If you publish a feed we link to and want to be added or removed, see our publishers page.
